Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Agadir – Taliouine – Agdez (Draa Valley)
Depart Agadir in the morning and travel east through the Anti-Atlas foothills to Taliouine, Morocco's saffron capital. Visit the local cooperative to learn about the cultivation and harvesting of the world's most expensive spice and sample saffron tea.
Continue through the mountain landscape to Agdez, the gateway to the Draa Valley, where ancient mudbrick kasbahs rise above endless groves of date palms lining the Draa River.
Overnight: Traditional guesthouse in Draa Valley
Meals: Dinner & Breakfast included
Day 2: Draa Valley – Zagora – M'hamid – Desert Trek
After breakfast, continue south through the Draa Valley to Zagora, the starting point of historic caravan routes to Timbuktu. Continue to M'hamid el Ghizlane — the last village before the Great Sahara and once one of the most important caravan staging posts in North Africa.
Experience a desert trek into the sandy plains and rolling dunes near M'hamid, savoring the silence and solitude of the pre-Saharan wilderness. Settle into a desert camp for a night of traditional Berber music, stargazing, and firelit storytelling.
Overnight: Desert camp near M'hamid
Meals: Dinner & Breakfast included
Day 3: M'hamid – Ramlia – Ouzina Desert
After breakfast, depart M'hamid and head east through the remote Ramlia desert corridor — a vast, dramatic landscape of black hammada (rocky desert) and shifting sand sheets largely untouched by tourism. This remote desert crossing leads to the Ouzina area, a wild and rarely-visited desert region on the eastern edge of the pre-Saharan zone.
Overnight: Riad Belvedere or similar
Meals: Dinner & Breakfast included
Day 4: Ouzina Desert – Khamlia Village – M'ifis Mines – Nomads – Camel Ride – Erg Chebbi
Today is one of the tour's most extraordinary days. Depart Ouzina on a 4x4 adventure toward Merzouga's Erg Chebbi, stopping along the way at:
- Khamlia Village: Meet the descendants of Sub-Saharan Gnawa communities and enjoy live Gnawa percussion and singing — a deeply spiritual and captivating musical tradition.
- M'ifis Mines: Explore the ancient salt and mineral mines that served desert caravans for centuries.
- Nomad Families: Visit a traditional nomadic Berber family in their tent, sharing mint tea and learning about their way of life.
Arrive at the towering Erg Chebbi dunes in the late afternoon for a sunset camel ride across the golden sand sea before reaching your desert camp.
Overnight: Sahara Eden Camp or similar
Meals: Dinner & Breakfast included
Day 5: Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley
Watch the sunrise illuminate the dunes before breakfast. Depart Merzouga and drive through Rissani, the ancient market town and royal city at the crossroads of desert caravan routes. Continue to the breathtaking Todra Gorge, where towering limestone cliffs rise over 300 metres above a narrow canyon floor. Walk through the gorge and take photos of one of Morocco's most awe-inspiring landscapes.
Continue into the Dades Valley (Rose Valley), famous for its pink damask roses, red rock formations, and winding mountain roads.
Overnight: Riad Paradise or similar
Meals: Dinner & Breakfast included
Day 6: Dades Valley Hike – Rose City – Amridil Kasbah – Ouarzazate
Begin the morning with a scenic 3-hour hike through the Dades Valley, exploring the dramatic rock formations known as the "Monkey's Fingers" and passing through traditional Berber villages. Continue to Kelaat M'gouna — the Rose City — famous throughout the Arab world for its rose water and rose oil production.
Visit the magnificent Amridil Kasbah in Skoura, one of the finest examples of traditional Moroccan mudbrick architecture, still inhabited by the same family for generations. Continue to Ouarzazate for dinner and overnight rest.
Overnight: Riad Dar Chamaa or similar
Meals: Dinner & Breakfast included
Day 7: Ouarzazate – Aït Ben Haddou – Anti-Atlas Mountains – Taznakht – Agadir
After breakfast, make a final stop at Aït Ben Haddou, the UNESCO World Heritage Site and Hollywood backdrop that has starred in Gladiator, Game of Thrones, Babel, and dozens of other productions. Explore its ancient towers and alleyways before beginning the journey home.
Drive back to Agadir via the Anti-Atlas Mountains, stopping at Taznakht to browse the rug cooperative's collection of hand-woven Berber carpets and kilims. Arrive in Agadir by late afternoon, completing an extraordinary 7-day journey through southern Morocco.
